Advanced Information

Appearance:

General: The island is a rather flat island that is shaped like a regular star. Its estimated diameter is 40km, with the base taking up 15km The majority of the island is a lush, temperate rainforest, teeming with life and undisturbed by human development. In fact, the only place where humans have permanently resided is near the center, where a large mountain sits. A river runs down the mountain and flows directly into the ocean. There are also lakes, creeks, rivers and streams spread out throughout the island due to the abundance of water. 80% of uninhabited areas canopies of trees shading the forest floor.

Mountain: The mountain that sits directly in the center of the island, named "The Mountain of Faith", is roughly 134 kilometres high and has a base circumference of 65 kilometres. Despite it being a mountain, it still grows plenty of tree that are large, alive and healthy. On the South-East face of the mountain, there is a waterfall and a village that is built near the top of it. Near the South-West face of the wall is a pilgrim's trail that spirals around the mountain and eventually leads to the mountain top, where a shrine and the leader of the Mountain Village resides, but not without heading into the mountain village first. There is also a grand forest that surrounds the path at the base. Halfway up the mountain, pilgrims will encounter the small, Mystifying Pond. There is a small shrine there dedicated to what seems like a giant toad. The mountain locals often leave offerings there.

There is a village that is built along a large, somewhat flat area of the mountain. The houses there are made of wood and stone, but most of them are built into the face of the mountain. However, due to the waterfall splitting the area up and the rocky terrain, there are multiple bridges that branch around the village and connecting some very scenic spots to the villagers. On the very top of the waterfall is a large, wooden platform that spans the whole width of the mountain-top river. It is a sentry platform for keeping an eye out for intruders. Moving up higher towards the mountain, you will find a shrine and a small lake beside it. The lake faces the North-West. Near the center of the lake is a small island and a hut that houses a "god" to the mountain natives. Large, wooden, octagonal pillars known as "honoured pillars" are planted in around the perimeter of the lake, decorated with shimenawa and shide. They are removed and replaced with new ones every twenty-five years. That is the only time mass groups of people come to visit the shrine.

The mountain natives themselves are very curious with technology and rather xenophobic due to rarely having visitors and pilgrims alike to make the journey up to the shrine or to the village, other than the Autumn Sisters whom come by daily to sell their produce. They shun anybody who isn't part of their village and refuse to offer services to them unless they are told to by their village leader or socially accepted in their village. The villagers are skilled mountain climbers, skilled inventors and are highly capable swimmers, and skilled at gliding down the waterfall, knowing exactly when to jump to avoid the sharp rocks at the bottom. The villagers generally wear light blue, waterproof coats and lime green caps. The village's main source of income is fishing, hunting and selling inventions.

Surface Village: The village is located three kilometre from the South-East face of the mountain, directly in sight of the Mountain Village. The waterfall that flows down the mountain flows by the village here and directly into the ocean, making this place the only village easily accessible by seafaring vehicles. The village has everything people would expect: a tavern, an inn, a tofu shop, a florist, a woodcutter, and more. All of the buildings are made out of wood and the ground is paved with light-coloured dirt. The village is walled off with palisade. Just outside of the village walls is cemetery with a grand, stone mausoleum dedicated to a famous previous village leader and ancestors.

If you leave the village, you will be greeted by a dirt path that instantly forks within the first 100 yards. If you take the path to the left, you will reach the Sun Garden. If you continue onwards, you will come across another fork in the road; One leaning slightly towards the right and another that bends at a ninety degree angle. The rightmost path takes you to the Yin-Yang Shrine. The other path leads you to Autumn's Grasp Farm and Misfortune Acres.

The villagers that live in this village are very friendly and hospitable, but take any slight threat very seriously, very close to the point of overreacting. All of the civilians, including the women and children, are armed and trained to fight like regular soldiers, although some are more talented than the others. The males dress often dress like their clothing is burlap, but the females like to dress rather elegantly, donning colourful and patterned dresses to stroll around town in. The villagers are also very curious about the odd sightings that they see around natural landmarks and often conduct investigations. The town's main income supply is fishing and farming.

A kilometre up the river from the surface village is the Autumn's Grasp Farm run by the Autumn Sisters. They control the food that is grown locally and they do not take kindly to competition. Any other farms that try to rival them immediately are assimilated forcefully. Although there are farms spread out around the mountain, the one closest to the surface village is the main farm. Spread out around the farm are guards armed with swords and flintlock rifles to guard the crops in case of any saboteurs that try and take out the Autumn Sisters and their farming monopoly.

Underground: The entrance to the underground is located two kilometres Westbound from the mountain base, carved into a gigantic boulder ten feet tall and twenty feet wide. However, the only stairway down are small platforms made of stone a foot long and a foot wide. One must jump from platform to platform, spiraling along the walls of the hole. Another way to get down is to either drop down and hope to land on something to break your fall or use a rope to slowly make your way down to the bottom. If an unrecognized traveler happens to try to reach the bottom, they will alert the sentries that hide within the nine-foot hollow in the boulder above and start attacking them directly, unless they are successful in fending off the sentries. The distance between the entrance and the bottom is roughly 100 meters, with a hundred steps in total to reach the bottom safely.

Upon reaching the bottom, one will be greeted by the dank smell of a wet cavern, with a slight tang of urine and feces. There are large puddles of water that flow in from the ceiling of the cavern, although most are probably dirty from the denizen of the cave that acts as a barricade if someone unknown manages to get past the sentries. There is also a waterfall in the unlit parts of the cavern that leads to a river further underground which the natives call Styx. Torches are placed along the path that leads to the underground city, leaving any other part of the cavern pitch black and making any traveler vulnerable for a surprise attack from the cave denizen. At the end of the cavern, there is a large hole with a pathway 3 meters wide that spirals down towards the location of the underground village. The trip down is roughly one mile.

Just after the spiral staircase is an enormous bridge 5 meters wide and 100 meters long. There is a 50 midpoint where the bridge terrain briefly changes into stone where the third guardian stands vigilant to allow access into the village. The only people allowed in after a security check are the Autumn Sisters and natives to the underground village. Anyone else will be turned away, be thrown into the river below if they resist or fight the guardian for entry.

Now, the village itself is brightly lit with red, paper lanterns. In fact, all of the wooden support beams, columns and railings are all painted red. A lot of the town has red decorations. The buildings themselves are made of large cobblestones, while the floor is just simple stone carved flat and smooth. All of the buildings are arranged in neat rows with ten rows in total. There are many bars and taverns there and a few restaurants to eat at, although no florists or woodcutters. At the far-most end of the village is a grand manor with stained, glass windows and stone statues embedded into the wall of the cave.

The manor is an elegant place to be, furnished with elegant sofas and beds with silk and velvet fabric, artistic, stained glass windows, stone statues that look like masterpieces in museums, all the kind of stuff that makes a manor worth living in. The owner of the manor also keeps various amounts of carnivorous animals. Most of the furniture with fabric is a violet hue. It houses the current leader of the underground village. The manor has a basement that leads even further underground, to a hell where they lock up law breakers and criminals, regardless of what they've done.

Down in the basement of the manor is a spiral staircase that leads down to a place just above a bed of lava. After a walk that leads about 500 meters down, one will reach what the natives call the "Hell of Hot Iron", named so because of the punishments there involve heating iron and applying it onto flesh. Prisoners that enter never come out, usually dying after one session. There is also a separate section of the lava bed where workers come to smelt the ores that they mined up.

The villagers that live underground are very rowdy, strong and quite the heavy drinkers. Most of the men and a good portion of the women have a muscular and toned body due to lifting. The males do not wear tops but wear burlap pants and wooden sandals while the females wear clothing similar to the males, but with shirts. The village's main source of income is mineral, coal and gem mining and smelting.

Notable Locations:

Frost Fog Lake: Located 50 meters South of the Underground Entrance. Named so because of its unnaturally chilly temperature of the lake water despite the seasons and the fog that constantly surrounds it. The fish that live here are usually fish that spawn in the Winter. The lake is shaped similar to an oval, with it being 100 meters wide and 257 meters long. Rumours persist that many locals have seen silhouettes of people flying through the fog.

Bloodmist Mansion: Located 317 meters South of the Underground Entrance. Named so because of the noble lineage that owns the mansion. The mansion is walled off with stone 6 inches thick and 12 feet high. It is an elegant place to live in and see, much similar to the underground manor, with the exception that most of the furniture, carpeting and windows are red. It houses 54 servants and three noble ladies that reportedly own the mansion. There have been some rumours circulating around the mansion that one of the owners is a vampire, and locked her sister in the basement for twenty years. There's also another rumour that one of the other owners never left the mansion since the day she was born.

Immortal's Bamboo Forest: Located 500 meters North of the mountain. A simple bamboo forest that towers above people at a grand height of 97 meters. Named so after many travelers and pilgrims reported seeing a female get shot through the head, but get up soon after, unscathed. Others report seeing two rivals fight each other until their limbs came off, but simply put them back on like they were detachable. People who tried to approach any of those cases had the people disappear like they were never there, like they were just an illusion.

Sun Garden: Located on a hill 78 meters North-West of the Surface Village. The hill is elevated 26 meters above sea level. Named so because of the absurd amount of sunflowers sitting on the hill. Locals report seeing a lone man standing with a parasol in hand, talking to the flowers. A search of the nearby area conducted by the locals conclude that either this man lives across the island, somewhere very hidden or doesn't exist at all. The flowers also show no sign of being tended to.

Poison's Body: A hill 8 meters high and located 46 meters East from Frost Fog Lake. Named so because of a story of a woman abandoning her 4 year old daughter amongst the poisonous lilies, whose name happened to be Poison. The child was assumed to be dead but was later sighted playing amongst the lilies like she was immune to it, and superstitious people claimed that the girl died but her soul was infused with the hill, making her body technically alive, but a puppet bound to the hill. Local eyewitnesses report that the girl is still playing there today with her body un-aging nor rotting.

Misfortune Acres: Located around the base of the Pilgrim's Path up the mountain, encircling the Underground Entrance, Frost Fog Lake, and Bloodmist Mansion. Named so because of the belief that this forest is the focal point of all things evil, grim and disgusting. This is the place where most of the strange sights, rumours and accidents occur. Many Pink Diamond flowers are grown in small patches everywhere in the acres. But once you look past all that, it's a rather nice place to live if you like the quiet.

Sanzang Temple: Located right outside the Surface Village. Named after the first village leader that united the three villages under one cause to form a union. A rather grand temple made of white stone and marble, all devoted to worshiping a deity of theirs and with many tombstones decorated outside in an orderly fashion. The temple also serves as place to hold funerals and weddings. There's a rather nasty rumour surrounding that none of the previous village leaders are dead, but sealed away underground, and the current village leaders keep an eye on the seal. Another rumour persists that there's a hopping corpse guarding the mausoleum underneath the temple.

Keystone Press: Located at the very top of "Mountain of Faith". Named after an old legend that states that the winged tyrant that took control and enslaved all of the inhabitants of the island. The tyrant was said to have dropped from the heavens on that rock, and it has not been moved since. He was known to be able to drop rocks similarly shaped like cut diamonds and decorated with shibe and shimenawa.

Mt. Faith Shrine: Located at the summit of the "Mountain of Faith". Named after the mountain itself. The Avatar of Mountains and Lakes resides in the shrine. Mountain locals regularly leave offerings for their village leader and self-proclaimed god. Locals say that they've seen their god cause tornadoes, wind storms and floods. No facts have been shown to back it up.

S.S. Minamitsu Sink Site: Located 500 meters South of the mouth of the river. Named after the ship's captain Miyaki Minamitsu and her ship's infamous sinking after leaving half a kilometre from land. There were no survivors. There is a sharp, jagged rock that marks the tombstone of Captain Miyaki and her crew. Locals at the surface village report seeing ships mysteriously sink whenever they pass the site at exactly 14:37. Locals have also reported seeing ghostly sightings of the captain standing on the rock, watching the sea for ships.

Yin-Yang Shrine: Located 247 meters North-West from the Surface Village. The shrine is in rather poor condition due to the lack of people donating to the shrine. The wood has aged and deteriorated due to weather conditions, paint is chipping and fading, and the sign to the shrine is starting to come off due to rusty nails. There is a rumour persisting that the monk that lives there only stays there to hold a seal that keeps misfortune from befalling upon the isle.

Doll Maker's House: Located somewhere within Misfortune Acres. The house is a stone, dual-level house. If one enters the house, they will immediately be greeted with hundreds of dolls sitting on shelves, chairs, sofas, and more. Some of the dolls, although still quite small and fit to play with for children, are armed with real swords and shields tailored for their size specifically. There's a rumour that the doll maker there secretly puts gunpowder in her dolls for unknown reasons. There's also another rumour that the dolls have a life of their own and do all of the doll maker's daily chores for him.

Demystifying Hut: Located somewhere within Misfortune Acres. Named so because of the strange artifacts, raw ingredients and cast-iron cauldron in the center of the hut. The hut itself if made of wood and does well in keeping heat inside and the cold outside. There's a rumour that one of the villagers visit this house to perform evil rituals to give Misfortune Acres its name.

Pink Diamond Grove: Located 251 meters South-West of Immortal's Bamboo Forest. Named so because of the amount of the native flower, the Pink Diamond, that grow there. This is where most of the flowers are situated. There is a myth that the many people that went mad from the flowers and died soon after become one of the flowers upon finishing decomposition. Locals suggest to stay away from the grove.

Mystifying Pond: Located half-way up the pilgrim's trail upon the side of the mountain. It's a relatively small pond filled mostly inhabited with frogs and other pond creatures. At the very back of the pond sits a shrine dedicated to what seems to be a giant frog of some sort, and offerings at the edge of the pond.

Hell of Hot Iron: Located underneath the Underground Village. It's used to bring island criminals to be punished by placing iron heated from the lava onto the flesh of the offender. It's said that people who come in never come out, even if they did very minor crimes such as steal an orange. Since nobody but torturers, guards and prisoners are allowed down there, nobody actually knows if the criminals are even alive or not. However, there's one rumour that there's one prisoner kept locked in a cage suspended over the lava, whose flesh has all melted off leaving nothing but muscles and tendons, and still alive and kicking. No word from the guards have confirmed this, though.

Manor Musica Located 100 meters North-West from the Underground Entrance. This manor has been abandoned and in a state of ruin for quite a while. While nobody knows who lived there or why it was abandoned, everybody tends to stay away from there because of the strange echoes of an ensemble playing mixed with screams of agony and suffering. There are also many messages painted in blood in the manor's foyer to warn anybody that enters to leave immediately or they'll suffer the same fate as the brave adventurers before them. Some people think that the messages were by some pranksters who are trying to scavenge the manor for valuables and are using the messages to ward off anybody interested in joining in on the treasure. No eyewitnesses have seen anybody going in or out, however.

Curios Collecteur Located somewhere within Misfortune Acres. Named so because of the person that runs the store sells strange relics, items and other anomalies that are strange to him. In short, this is much like an antique store and a second-hand shop fused together. Many assortments of antique weapons, vases, pots and pans, everything that is worth something to an antique collector. People believe the owner sits in his store all day reading and occasionally going out to buy food.

Sentry Platform: Located at the very top of the waterfall, just a short walk from the Mountain Village and the Mt. Faith Shrine. The Sentry Captain and Elite Mountain Patrol sit vigilant and watch for ships coming to dock at the village to see if the ships docking are threats so they can mobilize troops to reinforce defence at the Surface Village and the Mountain Village.

History:

One hundred and fifty nine years ago, the first of the inhabitants of The Isle washed up on shore after a passenger shipwreck. Out of the 250 passengers on board, only 100 of them washed up on The Isle. After realizing that they were stranded on an unmarked island, the largest group of survivors explored the nearby shores to look for any more survivors, in case they were some that didn't know where people were. After finishing gathering survivors, the group started working on getting off of the island by creating signals that would attract the attention of passing ships.

One month passed with no ships coming to their aid and 25 casualties, the remaining survivors decided to stop wasting their efforts trying to escape and colonize the island instead. These seventy five survivors became the first villagers of the Surface Village. And thus Leader S was granted the title of Village Leader.

Five years later, there was a large forest fire that released an insane amount of smoke into the air, finally attracting explorer ships to the island. Three explorer ships came to the island, exploring each end and marking down notable locations for many months until two of the explorer crews came across one another. The meeting of the crews enabled the explorers to cut the amount of time needed to explore the island by many fold. However, each explorer came across strange sightings whenever they visited natural landmarks. Worried about the sanity of their crew mates, the captains quickly vacated the island before they were finished their task. Many travelers recall seeing many small, pink flowers with a smell they described as "sweet, sour, salty, bitter and savory at the same time".

Skipping forward fifty years later, the village has prospered and attracted more settlers thanks to the three explorer crews that marked the island. The total population was estimated to be around 546 men, women and children. However, because of the sheer amount of settlers flooding in and the limited space left for expanding, the village leader began to turn away passenger ships. However, this did not stop the ships from docking and dropping off passengers. Because of that, the village leader had to chase off the passengers into the wilderness and told them to colonize another part of the island. That day marked the beginning of the creation of the Mountain Village. Skipping forward another decade, the Mountain Village has finished building the village, the shrine dedicated to the Mountain Leader, and Leader M was officially "crowned".

Not soon after, a domestic dispute between some of the more rowdy folks from both villages prompted a small civil war. The end result of the war resulted in a good portion from both villages being chased out. The losing faction went into hiding underground and formed the Underground Village. The leader of the underground vowed to never forgive the surface dwellers and soon come back with an army that could take over the island three times over. And so begun the hardships of Leader U.

Somewhere overseas, a Mr. Franklin Autumn heard about the island and its lush, green forests and fertile soil and was headed towards it to expand his farming monopoly even more. Once he got there, he was disappointed with the amount of trees and forestry there was. There wasn't a space big enough to set up farms. With the money he earned from his farming business, he hired all of the woodcutters in the Surface Village and ordered them to cut down acres of trees. Two years later, Autumn's Grasp Farm has finished setting up and has started farming and selling produce to the villages.

Four years pass as all of the people on the surface prosper and live. However, the village underground which many people hoped to succeed was failing. There was clean water where they were, but no light to grow plants. They still could get protein from underground fish from the river, but no vegetables to provide a balanced diet. Foragers that were sent above ground to gather food did not gather enough food and many of the people starved to death or died from malnutrition. In an act of desperation, the village leader made a journey to the surface to delegate with the surface leaders. The first one he saw person Mr. Autumn about to make his way up the mountain with his produce cart to sell his stock to the Mountain Village.

Leader U came before Autumn and revered him as a saint. He got onto his knees and begged and pleaded to his village's potential savior to reroute the produce delivery to the underground village. Autumn refused, saying to him that the delivery will not be rerouted unless payment was shown. The leader then went to the man whom he had vowed never to speak to again: His dear old friend Leader S. He stood silently before Leader S yet again, once a valiant and proud man with nothing to lose, now a broken soul with nothing but lives to lose. Like before Autumn, Leader U got onto his knees and begged for food and supplies for his village.

Leader S took pity on his former friend and hoped to make amends, and to start it off was with supplying food to his village on the condition that he and his people will find a natural resource to trade for food by the end of the week. Desperate for even a grain of rice, Leader U agreed wholeheartedly. On the way back to his home village, another frightening thought shook him to his core: What if there were no resources to exploit underground? This question kept him uneasy for days until he found mineral deposits below the village. Leader U rejoiced, now overjoyed that his people could eat heartily once again. Not soon after, the underground villagers also found gems and coal, although dangerously close to a lava bed after a fatal accident leaving 13 miners dead.

Two years later, and all three villages are prospering. The Isle has made a name for itself for giving travelers that make stops there awfully vivid hallucinations. One day, a major tornado occurred on a nearby island and eventually made its way towards the Isle. When the winds finally ceased, a rock shaped similar to a cut diamond fell from sky and landed on the very peak of the mountain. Oddly enough, it was carrying a man on it. The Mountain Village and the Surface Village saw but a celestial fall from the sky, when in reality it was just a marooned bandit leader named Zeppelin. Leader M was gravely wounded after trying to speak with him. Zeppelin was a brute, but a smart one to boot. And although he was outnumbered, his strength and wits alone were able to conquer the entire surface of the isle. None of the village leaders were able to stand up against him, as neither of him ever fought against such a skilled opponent.

Zeppelin slowly gained a very loyal following the more he stayed on the isle. His diaries also describe how he started to see vivid hallucinations where what now are notable landmarks, but does not know the cause of it. The current leader of the Surface Village at that time was a kindhearted man named Sanzang Fohshi. He could not stand up to Zeppelin and his growing army, and neither could the villages alone. He trained himself with weapons in secret to prepare himself to train others to rebel against the tyrant that is Zeppelin. The bandit warlord was fully aware of Sanzang's attempt to train himself with weapons, but not to gather an army to form a rebellion. Carelessly, he let the fact slip away.

It took Sanzang two years to complete his weapons training, and weeks to journey up and down the "Mountain of Faith" and down into the rocky outpost that is the Underground Village with the purpose to unite the villages under one sword and dethrone the tyrant "king". Sanzang personally brought together all three village leaders and, although with plenty of arguing and fighting at first, made peace between all three villages and successfully formed a union. It took the village leaders nearly a year to train every single man, woman and child in secret.

Soon enough, the fateful day where Sanzang would be forever revered a hero came and the Union Army quickly plowed through Zeppelin's forces. Sanzang burst into his former office, the place that Zeppelin called his own, hoping to find the big bad himself waiting for a duel. However, the only thing he found was Zeppelin with his throat slit, a sword through his heart and a bloodied journal. As the brave hero read the journal, he found out the tyrant committed suicide due to paranoia caused by the vivid hallucinations he had. Disappointed with the turnout, Sanzang walked out alive and was immediately revered a hero for supposedly killing Zeppelin. After all the bodies were cleaned up, Sanzang immediately had a palisade wall built around the perimeter of the village and had every family pass down their knowledge of war and fighting to their descendants. After Sanzang's death a temple was raised honour of the great war hero.

Not soon after, a talented yet unknown inventor and architect came to live with the people of the isle. However, he found no inspiration amongst the Surface Village. He journeyed up the "Mountain of Faith" and permanently resided with the mountain villagers. However, he wasn't satisfied with how this village was built compared to the other village. Space wasn't being used wisely, there were certain areas that could be used but were cut off due to height and there wasn't any vantage point to look out for intruders. Immediately, he consulted with the current Leader M and received an approval to make certain renovations and additions to the village. The first thing he added were simple bridges and ladders that connected areas that were cut off due to height or fast-moving currents. The next renovation he wanted to due but couldn't due to lack of manpower. Another talk with Leader M and the inventor/architect was given permission to teach any willing villagers the art of building. They caught on quickly and turned out to be quite the builders. And thus they created the Sentry Platform over top the waterfall.

The next renovation he made was that he carved houses into the mountain itself. At first, everybody thought he was crazy, but after completing the first wall house, a good portion of them supported the idea. The Mountain Village could now support up to 500 people thanks to his ideas. After he had settled down within the village, he reverted back to a life of inventing and drawing schematics. His work intrigued the mountain people, which lead to him teaching the villagers about his inventions and the basics and skills of inventing. This soon lead to the mountain people being renowned for their improved items, such as their trademark Hunting Bow, capable of firing twice as far as any regular bow, and their signature waterproofed clothing.

Twenty years pass and everything as been peaceful so far, other than the odd sightings locals see. Miyaki Minamitsu has finished building her ship and left with a crew of twenty eight. Unfortunately, nobody upon the vessel saw the rock that was in their way 500 meters off shore. The ship collided with the rock and the ship sunk. There were no survivors.

During that same year, a family of noble blood known as the Bloodmists visited the island and took a liking to the dark and broody forest that surrounded a gorgeous lake of fog. Using their wealth and connections, the Bloodmists were able to construct a fabulous, walled-off mansion with stone and furnished with imported furniture. A slight accident occurred whilst Lord and Lady Bloodmist were visiting the Surface Village which caused the rumour that the Bloodmists are vampires. Lady Bloodmist spontaneously bleeds from two, tiny puncture wounds on the neck. The wounds weren't lethal in any way, but they bled at the strangest times. Lord Bloodmist had hemophilia and liked to consume blood, even more his wife's blood. Lord Bloodmist was seen with his mouth upon his wife's neck in public, and it just spread like wildfire from there. The hemophilia trait was passed down to every first child in the bloodline.

Twenty seven years before Gol D. Rogers' death, the Marines wanted to establish a Marine HQ within the Surface Village. However, Leader S was resilient against that decision. He wanted the isle to stay an independent faction like they have been decades before. After some unfriendly persuasion, the Marines were chased out of the isle and orders were given to shun any Marines that dock. As a result, there are some radicalists that don't want the Marines to come at all and are willing to kill any to come across.

Special Information

Pink Diamond: The Pink Diamond is a small flower that is about six inches in height with a tubular stem and two leaves growing out of the side. The petals are a dazzling hue of bright pink that can be seen very clearly within the light of day. They have adapted to the shade from the canopies and do not require much sunlight to grow, and because of that, they are found growing everywhere. in small patches, unless in direct sunlight, where they will quickly form a grove if left unattended. This plant is what causes the vivid hallucinations and strange sightings the island is known for. The plant emits a strong odour that is very potent up close but quickly weakens when one is further away from it. The scent has been described as "sweet, sour, salty, bitter and savoury at the same time". The plant also emits an airborne chemical that affects the brain's neural patterns and causes vivid hallucinations, minor schizophrenia and can be harmful to neurons and brain cells in large doses.
